SUPPLY DRIVES
GUYANA
We are currently conducting an Amazon "Wish List" drive to ship needed supplies to the Bless the Children Home in East Demerara, Guyana. Bless the Children is currently home to 29 orphans and is supporting an additional two in college in the United States. The Wish List is for much-needed clothing, educational, recreational and other supplies for the orphanage. Any amount you can purchase or donate will make a difference in their lives.
You can make direct purchase of goods to be sent to Volunteers for Children to be packaged and shipped by us to Guyana. The Wish List is for new items only - making 100% of your purchases tax deductible as a donation. **When using the Wish List, please make sure you select the Volunteers for Children address option before finishing your checkout. Otherwise Amazon will send the purchase to your address by default.

GUATEMALA
From November of 2020 through April of 2021, Volunteers for Children has shipped over 500 pounds of clothing, educational materials, medical supplies and other necessities to the community of Parcelamiento el Arisco, Tiquisate, Escuintla, Guatemala.
This community has been particularly hard hit by Hurricanes Eta and Iota in 2020 as well as severe flooding and landslides in 2021 which have impacted millions of people and destroyed hundreds of homes. We will continue shipments to Guatemala throughout the year to help alleviate the conditions that are impacting the children of this country.
School Supplies Drive
Volunteers for Children recently partnered with Greenwich Academy in Greenwich, CT, to provide much-needed school supplies to orphaned children in Guyana and Guatemala. The Lower School students of GA filled over 200 backpacks with brand new pens, pencils, markers, notebooks, coloring books, and other school supplies, which VFC then delivered to orphanages in Georgetown, Guyana, and in Parcelamiento, La Libertad, and Sayaxche, Guatemala. Thank you, Greenwich Academy, for a fantastic volunteer effort to help these children.
ADDITIONAL DRIVES
We are planning future drives for organizations and communities in Central and South America, Africa and Asia and will provide details as these programs develop!
TRAVEL
Direct travel to disadvantaged countries is a fundamental part of how we further Volunteers for Children. We will not work with organizations or communities that we have not personally verified and assured that they are providing proper help and support for the children they cover.
We travel in-country to directly work with the children and help build needed infrastructure such as proper housing, facilities for education, recreation, dining and laundry. To the extent that major repairs are needed, we hire local contractors and directly supervise the work to ensure that it is timely and not economically wasteful. We purchase and directly install major purchases such as laundry machines, refrigerators, beds, etc.
All of our donations and work are supervised directly by us through volunteers and our network of trusted local contacts. We welcome volunteers to join us on our travels to learn more about the needs of the children and communities we are helping. With most of the geographies we work with still under COVID travel restrictions, we do not anticipate travel until late this year or 2022. We will let you know on this page as soon as we can recommence.
FUNDRAISING EVENTS
With most COVID restrictions lifting, we plan to return to in-person fundraising events later this year. More information will be available on this page when we are able to safely conduct these.
